"Try not to become a man of success. Rather become a man of value." -Albert Einstein

High

Last week we talked about the fact that failures often come before successes. We ended with a reminder not to let your successes or failures define who you are. Now we're going to dive a bit deeper into that.

Why is it that we feel so driven to pursue success in the first place? It feels good, sure, but Albert Einstein seems to think there's something deeper. He encourages people to strive for value rather than success.

But if we really think about it, we're all really trying to become people of value deep down. The problem isn't that we're not trying to be valuable, the problem is we're trying to be valuable to the wrong person (or people).

Low

Our world likes to judge the value of a person by their successes and failures, abilities and disabilities, and strengths and weaknesses. We judge people by the way they look and the way they act.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder - and we get to choose whose vision to trust. If we allow our value to be measured by other people, you'll always fall short. You need to find your value in something or someone else - and choose carefully, because it's going to define how you see yourself for the rest of your life.
