"When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better to." - Paulo Coelho
When you think about it, it's rather ironic that choosing to love people pushes us to become better ourselves. You would think that the more you give of yourself and the more you pour into others, the less you'll have for yourself.
Often, however, you may find that loving people actually leads to an increase in your own life. Why is this? I think it's because loving people allows you to step into agreement with something far greater than yourself that has been going on far longer than you've been alive. It pushes the world one step closer to the beauty of what it was supposed to be.
Every time you love someone, it not only creates a place of beauty in a dark world, but it exposes the things that have gone wrong. Loving people stirs up the longing we have for a better world - and it's those people being stirred that will go on to seek it out and bring it into reality.
As we go on letting our love loose into the world however, we need to remember that we're just as broken as the rest of the world is. Working on our own, we don't have what it takes to bring restoration - we'll run ourselves dry, and then we'll be left as parched as the world that swallowed us up.
We need help. Before we can pour out love to others, we need to have a source of love pouring into us. When these two things come together - a supply of love that keeps on giving, and a person working to give it away in turn to everyone else - great things start to happen.
