Right now, there are a lot of people going through a lot of hard things. In this time of devastating loss, thankfulness is often the last thing on our mind. It's much easier to think of the things we've lost than to be grateful for what we still have.

But what if thankfulness is exactly what we need in order to get through this? Thankfulness has the power to change our frame of reference: when we focus on the things we've been given rather than what has been taken from us, it gives us a glimmer of hope in a dark world. We might not be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but thankfulness is like holding a flashlight - sure, we're surrounded by darkness - but we're carrying a light. And as more and more of us shine our lights, we may find it's not as dark as it once seemed.

That's not to say we should forget about our losses. But we shouldn't let our losses become so large in our minds that we lose sight of our blessings.

So, when you find yourself with plenty, remember to give thanks!

And when you find yourself with little, do so all the more!
