Change is one of those things we often have a complicated relationship with. We love change when it involves us gaining something, but we avoid it when it means we'll lose something.

As humans, we can get attached to things very strongly. Whether it be an activity, a job, a person, an item of sentimental value, or anything else, we get so attached to something that we aren't willing to give it up.

Then when something new comes along, we want to be able to have the new thing while still holding on to the old.

But unfortunately, we can't always have both - and sometimes we're not meant to. In those cases, we need to be willing to let go of one thing in order to take hold of the next.

But often we find it very hard to let things go. So sometimes life will throw things at us that force us to let it go - and though it's easy to find this frustrating and annoying, maybe it's actually something we need. In order to be ready to take hold of something new, we need to know how to let go of the old - and how to do that the right way.

So when life forces change, it's giving us an opportunity to practice letting go and moving on.

On the other hand, that doesn't mean you should forget about the old entirely. In many cases, those old things have already taught so many things in different seasons, or given us great memories. We just need to make room for the new lessons and memories that are waiting for us in the next season. There's a time for holding on, and a time for letting go.
