High

Yesterday was the first day of advent - an important time for us at High/Low (after all, our app is entirely based on the idea of reflection ๐Ÿ˜œ). This is a very special season leading up to Christmas as we anticipate this wonderful holiday.

The Christmas season is one of my personal favorites - it comes with such a great sense of anticipation, and it's a time where I slow down and stop to reflect on the things that are meaningful to me.

Every Christmas, we look back to the day long ago when Jesus Christ was born: an event so great and powerful that we're still celebrating it over 2000 years later - and rightly so. It was the manifestation of a plan that had existed for thousands of years before the event, and is still in motion thousands of years afterwards. It was a pivotal moment, and it's beautiful in its mystery, its significance, and its power.

Low

Advent is a time where we connect back to that event, putting ourselves in some small way back in the position of the people who had waited for hundreds of years for the Messiah - except we have the assurance that he has already come.

I think Charles Dickens sums it up well in "A Christmas Carol" - Scrooge says, "I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me."

While the context of this quote may be very different from what we're talking about, it's meaning is just as relevant: during advent, we remember the helplessness of our past, we recognize the power we have in the present because of the work of Jesus, and we look forward to the beauty of what He's promised us in the future.

I hope you all have a wonderful time reflecting this advent. Merry Christmas!
